2019 SEASON RECAP:
After a slow start to the season, we won the SVL North conference. We dealt with some injuries early on, but when the team became healthy we played better as a group. We won our District over our rival Midland High, won our regional semi-final game and were waiting to play Davison in the regional final when the season was cancelled.
RETURNING STARTERS:
All 5 starters are returning.
Jada Garner – 2021 PG
Chloe McVey – 2021 PG
Katelyn Murray – 2021 SG
Alexa Kolnitys – 2022 PG/SG
Abby Rey – 2022 F
RETURNING PLAYERS THAT YOU EXPECT TO BE KEY CONTRIBUTORS:
I expect all 5 starters to play big roles this year. All 5 have starting experience and have all won conference and district titles. This group has been playing together since elementary and they know each other’s games very well. Jada Garner is the reigning SVL MVP.
NEWCOMERS TO WATCH:
Klaire Caldwell is a freshman who should make an impact on the team right away. She is a tall, athletic guard who can play multiple positions and shoot the ball.
CONFERENCE AND/OR CITY RIVALS:
Heritage is always a team we look forward to playing in the SVL and one of the two of us has won the conference title for the last 8 years. They are always a tough game. Midland High is our city rival and it’s always a fun game to play with a lot of intensity.
KEY REGULAR SEASON GAMES:
In addition to Heritage and Midland High, Davison and Flushing should pose a tough challenge. We are still trying to fill out our schedule with other tough games too.
SEASON GOALS:
Our goal is to win every time we step on the floor. Winning is our expectation. We never talk about Conference titles or district titles. We talk about how no school on our schedule in the regular season and postseason is a team we fear.
PHILOSOPHY/MOTTO:
Win everything. Once the girls put on a Dow jersey the expectation is that they carry themselves in a way that would make our community proud. There is a long standing tradition of success in our school both athletically and academically, and the girls are expected to continue the tradition.
